Take 5: 5 Ways to Self-Care in 5 Minutes

by Erin Fabio on Aug 09, 2020

Darlings, these are some crazy times we are living in! While most of us have been forced to slow down in light of COVID-19, we’ve all taken on a lot more whether it be working and homeschooling our kids, or working from home and being on constant ZOOM calls. Now more than ever it can seem really difficult to take a step back, relax, and have a moment for yourself. A self-care routine is super important for both your mental and physical well-being and it’s constantly being forgotten or skipped over during our daily routines. Even just taking five minutes per day to take care of yourself can make a huge difference in your happiness and well-being. Here are five simple and easy self-care tips and tricks that only take 5 minutes or less per day:

1. Practice Self Love with Aromatherapy

Every morning, each and every one of us stares at ourselves in the mirror while we do our morning routine. Next time you’re standing in the bathroom planning out your day, take a minute (it only takes one) to say “I love you” to your reflection. Just taking a moment to speak those words out loud reaffirms how important you and your well-being truly are. An added bonus here is to include a bit of aromatherapy into your self-love by breathing in your favorite essential oil. OLIKA Hydrating Hand Sanitizers use essential oil fragrances like relaxing lavender essential oil and invigorating mint citrus to help boost your mood and start your day off right!

2. Lemon Water

Kickstart your day with a glass of hot, lemon-infused water. There are loads of health benefits that come from starting your day with lemon water, but it also just leaves you feeling positively invigorated and isn’t that the goal anyway? Here’s some things we know result from mornings with lemon water by your side:

  • Boosts hydration
  • Good source of vitamin C
  • Great for skin health
  • Aids digestion
  • Leaves you feeling more awake & alert

3. Dance it out!
Self Care isn't Selfish sign

If you wake up in a funk with little motivation and a frown on your face, a great way to show your body a little love (and some fun) is a quick, one-song dance party. Put on your go-to party anthem, pop song, or show tune and jump around, whip your hair, and shake it out! You might feel a little silly dancing alone in your room, but trust us, it’s an easy way to wake up your body and your mind. You’ll head out the door feeling energized and smiling :)

4. Do one thing that makes you happy every day

Before you head out for the day, think of one activity that truly makes you happy or sparks joy. It could be something as simple as making your favorite coffee drink or as big as ordering yourself some flowers. Whatever it is, think of one thing to do every single day that will truly make you happy. Even one coffee-full of happiness is a great way to self-care.

5. 5 minutes of journaling

Journaling is such a restorative form of self-care that can be mind-clearing while spurring creativity. Take 5 full minutes to write freely. This can be about your day, what you’re grateful for, or even a letter to yourself.
