Why Hydrated Skin is Healthier Skin

Spoiler Alert: You don’t need a 12-step skincare routine to maintain healthy, youthful, radiant skin- you just need hydration.

Our bodies are over 60% water, so when your skin is craving a drink- it’s sure to let you know!  Acne, fine lines, dark under-eye circles, and sensitive, itchy skin are all signs that your skin may be dehydrated.

Why is hydrated skin healthier? Hydrated skin is proven to:

  • Heal faster
  • Age slower
  • Combat oiliness
  • Be less susceptible to germs
  • Itch less
  • & protect your body from environmental toxins

Hydrating your skin starts from within, with a balanced diet and adequate water intake. Topically hydrating and moisturizing your skin (yes, there’s a difference!) should also become a daily part of your hygiene routine. When shopping for new hydrated skin care products, look out for hydrating ingredients like aloe, hyaluronic acid, and shea butter.

If you’re really trying to boost your body’s hydration game, try exfoliating once per week with a bristled brush to help eliminate dead skin and encourage cell regeneration. Adding a humidifier to your space during dry, winter months can help combat the cold, harsh air.

While you’re focused on putting your best face forward, don’t forget about your hands. Your hands are one of the first areas to start showing signs of aging, often because they don’t get the same attention and care as other parts of our bodies.

Frequent hand washing eliminates germs but can also eliminate moisture. Ironically, dry, cracked hands are more susceptible to germs so hydrating is a crucial part of hand hygiene. Invest in a luxurious hand cream (perhaps one with SPF) and swap your stripping, gel hand sani for a hydrating hand sanitizer formulated with clean ingredients.
